5 New Kiosk Trends for 2025
It’s hard to believe that’s it’s already September 2025!
The year 2025 has been speeding by, and as usual there have been lots of updates in technology solutions for retail, QSR/dining, hospitality, and healthcare end users .
Some updates are not so fun, like price increases due to tariffs.
Others are much more positive, like some new kiosk trends for 2025.
Let’s take a look at some of the most recent trends that might be useful for your business or organization.
TREND #1
There continues to be a push for Android-based kiosks
There are a variety of operating systems that can be used for kiosk applications, including Windows, Android, Chrome OS, and iOS. Each software platform has it’s pros and cons, including ease-of-deployment, security management, field management, cost, and so on.
One kiosk trend we’ve noticed is the big push towards Android-based kiosk PCs. Forget what you knew about Android and mobile devices, because Android on PCs is a game changer!
Some pros to using Android OS include easier device management via MDM apps, lower purchasing costs, large customization options due to Android’s open-source nature, and general ease-of-use vs legacy operating systems like Windows.
If your business or organization is looking to implement a kiosk solution, I definitely recommend reviewing Android-based options alongside any other options, just to make sure you have the best solution.
TREND #2
Modular kiosk solutions dominate the landscape
We’ve all seen the large-format kiosks being used at large fast food chains, grocery stores, and other retail stores. These kiosks can be a great fit your the respective environment, but the truth is that some businesses and organizations don’t need a huge kiosk stack for their application.
One of the kiosk trends that I’ve noticed in 2025 is the push for modular kiosk solutions. A modular kiosk solution consists of several different items that create a fully-functioning kiosk station. These items include a modular touchscreen PC, peripherals that attach to the modular PC and kiosk stand, and the kiosk stand itself.
Some neat OEMs with modular kiosk solutions include:
Elo Touch
Elo Touch has several unique solutions that you can use to create your own kiosk solution, including the modular I-Series PC (available in Windows and Android OS), the Slim Self-Service Stand and Wallaby Pro Stand, and their Edge Connect peripherals.
MicroTouch
MicroTouch has been described as the greatest story never told, however that’s quickly changing as they gain more market share in various markets. They have their own modular MACH all-in-one series of PCs (available in Windows and Android OS), along with their own set of clip-on peripherals.
HP Retail
HP Retail continues to be a large player in the kiosk game, and their focus is to provide sleek, high-quality POS solutions to operators around the world. The HP Retail kiosk solution is called HP Engage Express, which consists of a few different kiosk stand options that are paired with HP Engage Pro modular PCs.
Zebra Technologies
Zebra recently released their own kiosk solution, called the KC50.
The KC50 runs on Android OS, is available in 15.6″ or 22″ screen size, and features a variety of peripherals that can be connected to the edge of each unit.
End users can pair the KC50 PC with any third-party stand that has a matching VESA mounting pattern.
The Zebra KC50 can also be paired with a variety of MDMs, including Esper.
Remember to do your research, or let our team at PLS present you with cost-effective modular kiosk options.
Your business or organization does NOT need to spend several thousand dollars per kiosk in order to have an enterprise-grade kiosk stack.
TREND #3
SoftPOS remains a vital part of kiosk trends
SoftPOS payment solutions continue to play a crucial role in self-checkout kiosk projects, and there are many reasons for this trend.
SoftPOS aka contactless payment, allows customers to use tap-to-pay payment solutions like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and NFC-enabled payment cards. Adapting a SoftPOS payment solution removes the need for businesses to rely on larger, physical EMV payment terminals. Instead, business can use kiosks with NFC to accept these tap-to-pay solutions.
The statistics for SoftPOS have been trending upward in the United States, while some continents like Europe have already universally adopted tap-to-pay.

TREND #4
More businesses are implementing endless aisle solutions to capture every dollar
Have you ever heard of the endless aisle?
If not, you need to do your research, and I recommend that you implement ASAP!
An endless aisle is an omnichannel concept that allows your customers to browse and order items from a touchscreen kiosk on a retail floor.
The idea is that your customers can browse and order items that may not physically be in-stock at your retail store. This allows your business or organization to capture every dollar of revenue vs. losing the revenue to another store or e-commerce operator.
The ROI and benefits on endless aisle solutions are huge, and setup is extremely simple.
Like most solutions, endless aisle applications rely on specific software to integrate with your POS/e-Commerce platform.

TREND #5
Labor costs continue to rise, so kiosk installations continue to grow
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, labor costs continue to rise during the third quarter of 2o25.
I don’t think we need a report to understand that inflation and labor costs continue to increase, and this is why many businesses and organizations continue to research and roll out self-service kiosk solutions across a variety of industries.
Implementing a kiosk solution is a great way to reduce labor and operating costs, while still providing great service and value to customers.
There’s not much else to say about this trend, I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but if your biz needs to cut labor costs then it’s time to start researching the best way you can incorporate self-service kiosks into your operations.
So what’s my next step?
All these kiosk trends are relevant for 2025 and beyond.
